Mark Zauss
Mark Zauss was first
inspired to play trumpet at age 12 after hearing a recording of Maynard
Ferguson. As he began to hear recordings of other artists such as Charlie
Parker, John Coltrane, Clifford Brown, and Louis Armstrong,
Mark was inspired and driven to practice 6 to 10 hours a day. This dedication
enabled him to develop an extreme upper register as well as improvisational
skills in several different musical styles. At age 14, Mark began playing
trumpet professionally in South Florida. Now a full time musician based out of
Orlando, Mark has spent the last 11 years playing a variety of gigs: Universal
Studios, Rosie O'Grady's and playing lead trumpet at Disney's
MGM Studio's "Hollywood Hitmen", and EPCOT's "Future Corps".
Known for playing stratospheric high notes on his trumpet, Mark's soaring,
sweet sound has given him the opportunity to perform with many musical artists
such as Rita Moreno, Sandi Patti, The Temptations, Pat
Metheny, The Spinners, Maureen McGovern, Frankie Valli
and Branford Marsalis. He has played on several network TV specials for Universal
Studios, Nickelodeon, Candid Camera, and most recently
featured on "Emeril Lagasse Live" on the Food Network.
In 1996, Mark formed his own production company called Band
Source Productions Inc. This gave Mark an opportunity to front his own bands
and entertain audiences along with his wife, Kathy Spring. Mark's
high-energy swing band "The Z Street Little Big Band" captivates
audiences with his style of swing and jazz. Another group, "The Basin Street
Brass Band" adds a new twist to New Orleans jazz. As a recording
artist, Mark has just finished his first solo album "Beyond The Stratosphere". In 1998, Mark and Kathy combined their talents on
"Sweet N' Dixie", a recording featuring some of Dixieland's greatest hits. In
demand as a first-call recording artist, he has performed on jingles,
commercials and continues to record for a variety of musical groups. Highly
regarded as a musician and teacher, Mark has led several workshops and lectures
for the United States Navy Band, Seminole Community College, Florida
Community College, and Dr. Phillips
Center for the Performing Arts.
