I have finally finished, printed and shipped my poster off the The Haiti Poster Project. It will be available for sale on their site soon. This is a signed and numbered, limited edition set of 25. As the number of posters decrease, the price increases. All donations go directly to Doctors Without Borders for the aid efforts in Haiti.
My thought for this poster was not to focus on the tragedy but to give an image of hope to the people of Haiti and beyond. The butterfly is the most beautiful example of transformation and rebirth. All of life is changing, growing, dying and being born. All things, good and bad, come and go. So I translated the phrase, “This too shall pass” into French and incorporated it into the piece as the only text.
The process for the artwork was colored pencil and watercolor, traced with micro pen. To me defining the beauty, rhythm and freedom of water into form is so exciting. Like snowflakes, it is never the same twice.
The poster was printed on French Paper Co. 80 lb. Speckletone True White Cover Stock by Watkins Press, Beacon, NY
